Business Development Manager, Education and Society

In this exciting role as Business Development Manager, you will have the opportunity to provide strategic leadership for the Education and Society department in alignment with the North East Asia cluster, regional and global priorities, with the aim of strengthening the relationship between the UK and Korea in these fields. You will be able to develop business, build partnerships, and manage programmes and services provided to the audience and stakeholders in the UK and in Korea. 

A majority of the role will comprise of business development which involves monitoring key sector trends in Korea and in the UK, gathering and analysing intelligence on client strategies, potential partners and competitors and linking that to opportunities for British Council Korea. Project planning is another aspect of the role you can look forward to. It will consist of leading start-ups of programmes funded by clients and partners, ensuring they meet the objectives and standards of these funding partners. You will also be involved in strategic planning by working with the Director Education and Society in developing a coherent and sustainable Education and Society strategy for Korea in line with the global and regional priorities, incorporating Korea’s experience, priorities and market factors. Other tasks will include managing the programme budget, including cash income from partners and clients, and other duties in accordance with Operation Manager (OM) role on British Council’s finance system.

The Education and Society team in British Council Korea has 8 members of staff. You will line manage 2 members of the Education and Society SBU to corporate standards of performance management and strong team working.

The ideal candidate should bring along sector knowledge experience in higher education and/or research with skills in project and contract management, writing and presentation and especially, marketing and sponsorship. Strong written/verbal communication and influencing skills are required to build buy-in in the rapidly changing internal and external context. A University degree is essential.
