We are recruiting for interns at the British Embassy Seoul to run upto 16 weeks from January 2017.

These internships are designed for those who want to learn more about how an embassy works and will provide you a unique and in-depth understanding of the British Government's work in Seoul. It's ideal for those who wish to broaden their skills and experience in a real-world environment.

There are three internship opportunities:


a. Alumni Team Internship

The Chevening scholarship process and activities will take place in January - February. The selected intern will assist  in alumni engagement projects and the Chevening scholarship selection process and marketing activities for 2017/18 cycle in order to deliver Embassy’s objectives and raise awareness of Chevening brand in South Korea. She/He will:

•Provide assistance on selection process for 2017/18 Chevening Scholarships •Provide assistance on Chevening and UK alumni engagement projects including management of RSVPs list and guests at events •Assist in the management of the  database for Chevening scholars and UK alumni •Assist  delivery of Chevening and UK alumni newsletters and SNS activities •Promote Chevening programmes and UK education at education fairs,seminars and Embassy events if applicable •Translate and manage promotional materials •Provide administrative support for alumni team •Support other Business Environment and Enablers team activities when required

b. Great Campaign Intern

The British Embassy Seoul will run two major GREAT campaigns in February and March 2017 - Sport is GREAT and Creativity is GREAT. Sport is GREAT aims to promote UK companies proficient in delivering sporting events and British sport more generally – with a view to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Creativity is GREAT aims to shift Korean perceptions of the UK and to position the UK as a thought leader and partner of choice in design, the performing arts, inclusive arts, and creative industries. The intern will provide administrative support for these campaigns:

•Liaison with relevant stakeholders such as event agency, partnership companies and other sections in the Embassy. Organisation of events with oversight from GREAT manager •Support in planning/implementing digital/social media PR work for the two campaigns •Translating PR materials •Administrative support work

c. Internship at Department for International Trade (2nd January – 17th March 2017)

The British Embassy Seoul will run an outward trade mission for British Lifestyle Showcase in March 2017. This project aims to support British lifestyle brands to enter the Korean market by exhibiting at the venue of Seoul Living Design Fair 2017. British brands for home, kitchen and gift will be invited to this mission. The intern will provide administrative support for the event and be involved in the following: •Liaison with relevant stakeholders such as event agency, participating British companies and other sections in the Embassy. Organisation of the event with oversight from Trade Manager •Support in planning/implementing the showcase. •Administrative support work



Successful candidates for both internships are enthusiastic, quick learners with the ability to work with minimum oversight. Candidates should be looking to stretch themselves in a new environment. 

  • Fluency in Korean and English
  • Experience and interest in organizing and hosting events and programs
  • High proficiency in IT : Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowlegde of Korea's economy and business culture

Experience in writing for media or marketing is preferred, basic photography skills, some experience in design software (Adobe) and knowlegde of Korea's healthcare or design industries would be a plus.

The internship can be up to 16 weeks - working hours would be agreed at appointment and could extend on days when events or functions are held. 

You will not eligible for a transfer or appointment to another position within the British embassy at the end of your internship. Any future employment with the embassy shall be subject to a separate recruitment and selection process. 

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. 

Interviews will be conducted in December. The deadline of Applications is on 30 November at 5pm Seoul time.
