Professor Introduction
Hyo Kang is an Associate Professor of Strategy and International Management at the SNU Business School, Seoul National University. He earned his Ph.D. from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley, and previously served as an Assistant Professor at the USC Marshall School of Business.
His research explores the drivers, processes, and consequences of technological innovation. He examines how policies, regulations, and institutions shape innovation and how emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, influence individuals, firms, and industries. His work has addressed diverse topics including antitrust enforcement, non-compete agreements, visa and immigration policies, short-selling regulations, and patent renewals. His research has been published in leading journals such as Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Research Policy, Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, and Journal of International Business Studies.
A central theme of his work is identifying strategies and policies that foster innovation and enhance competitive advantage. His recent projects investigate the impact of AI on decision-making, knowledge creation, scientist mobility, and organizational performance, particularly in the context of the US-China talent war and mass layoffs in the tech sector.
