On February 13th to 15th, 2023 First Year Orientation was held for three days at SNU Business School and the Beache Palace at Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do. Hosted by the 37th Business School student union, “Voyage,” this event was attended by 124 first-year students, 67 current students, 20 members of a performance group from other colleges, 28 students from TF Team, Professor Woojin Kim, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, and Professors Jinsoo Park and Dong Beom Choi.

The event was meaningful as it was the first overnight orientation event after a four-year hiatus due to COVID-19. For first-year students, orientation marked the beginning of their life as university students and for current students, it was a turning point as they returned to their daily lives before COVID-19. The interactions between students, which had been cut off due to COVID-19, have begun again, and students who have been unable to find meaning in their school life had the chance to feel the vibrancy of campus life. At the same time, the event was held following thorough safety measures against COVID-19.

The theme of 2023 Orientation was “CBA CUP: The Important Thing is to Have an Unbreakable Business Spirit,” inspired by the quote “The important thing is to have an unbreakable spirit.” which made a huge impression on Koreans after Korea qualified for quarterfinals at the World Cup last year. The event was organized with the hope that first-year students who went through fierce competition to enter a new league at the SNU Business School could navigate the challenges of college with an unbreakable spirit.

On the second day (14th), students participated in recreational sessions, performances by student clubs, and the closing ceremony. Particularly, performance by the “Bal-Garak” band created by Business School professors and undergraduate students was well received by the students on the second day of the event.

The event ended on the third day (15th) as all the students returned safely from Boryeong Beache Palace to Seoul National University.

We all have come to cherish the importance of being connected during the past four years when everything has been cut off due to COVID-19. Hopefully, the 2023 First Year Orientation could inspire all students to develop a genuine sense of pride and affection as members of the Business School.
