Dean Chae's Second Message

Greetings to the members and alumni of Seoul National University. The long winter has come to an end, and spring is now in the air. The SNU Business School has advanced further in 2024 thanks to your continued interest and support. As I mark my first year as Dean, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on our journey over the past year and share the accomplishments we have achieved together.
SNU Business School’s vision is to foster creative, challenging, and socially responsible global leaders. To achieve this vision, we have put much effort into improving the School’s education and research environment over the past year.
To foster creativity, we provided more opportunities for students to engage in a variety of arts and cultural activities, including art and musical performances as well as exhibitions. We also partnered with the Seoul Arts Center, the College of Music, and the College of Fine Arts to create an environment where students can enhance their artistic sensibilities. Furthermore, we encouraged students to embrace challenges and embark upon various adventurous activities and entrepreneurial endeavors, offering numerous opportunities to navigate risks and achieve growth.
We broadened volunteer opportunities for students and supported them in recognizing their social responsibility, gaining a deeper understanding of social issues, and taking accountability.
To strengthen their capacities as global leaders, we expanded the student and faculty exchange program to include other universities, such as Carnegie Mellon University, Georgetown University, and National Taiwan University, while enhancing the Business School’s global cooperative network.
I would also like to express my gratitude to the students, faculty members, and alumni who contributed to the SK Safety Enhancement Fund. By putting our hearts into raising funds and initiating a renovation project using the funds, rather than solely relying on the support of the university administration, we not only secured financial backing but also made a meaningful occasion that demonstrated our community’s sense of ownership. Such efforts laid the groundwork for encouraging additional contributions from the university administration and other major donors.
We have accomplished many things over the past year, but there were also limitations in the Business School’s administration regarding its response to university-wide policies related to undergraduate programs and internal audits. This year, we aim to address these inefficiencies and faithfully realize the vision of our Business School through more effective and comprehensive administrative practices.
All these changes would not have been possible without the active participation and unwavering support of our students, faculty members, and alumni. SNU Business School will continue to work diligently to become a world-class institution. I kindly ask for your ongoing attention and support.
Thank you.
Joon Chae, Dean of the Seoul National University Business School
