2024 Orientation Held for First-Year Students
The “2024 First Year Orientation” (hereinafter orientation) for first-year students enrolling in 2024 and current students was held for three days from February 15, Thursday to February 17, Saturday, at Kensington Resort Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do. Hosted by the 38th Student Union “Deungdae,” this event was attended by 145 first-year students, 72 current students, 59 members of performing student groups, 31 students from the Orientation Preparation Committee, and Professor Byungjoon Yoo, Vice Dean of Student Affairs.
After the orientation was successfully held for multiple days at an external venue after a four-year hiatus due to COVID-19 last year, the scale of this year’s orientation was bigger as more students took an eager interest and participated in the event. The theme of the 2024 orientation was “CBA Blue Marble,” after the national board game “Blue Marble,” which is themed around traveling the world. The theme was designed with the hope that life as a university student would be a fun adventure filled with diverse experiences for first-year students who have studied incessantly to enter the Seoul National University College of Business Administration.
On the first day (15th), a university-led orientation for first-year students, which included psychological tests, human rights and gender equality education, sessions on academic information and university life, and quiz sessions, was held in Building 58 at the College of Business Administration. After the event, the first-year students traveled to Kensington Resort Chungju with current students to have a safety and human rights education session, enjoy performances, and spend time with their classmates. Student groups from the College of Business Administration, as well as central student groups and student groups from other departments, came to Chungju for the College of Business orientation, providing students with various performances.
The second day (16th) consisted of recreational competitions between classes and a closing ceremony at Kensington Resort Chungju. Various prizes were provided, including prize money for classes that actively participated in the programs and airline tickets for students. The closing ceremony was especially well received by the students as a band of alumni who were the matriculating class of 1990, including Vice Dean Byungjoon Yoo, performed together with members of the College of Business Administration rock band “B.A.ROCK.”
The orientation ended on the third day (17th) after all participants traveled safely back from Kensington Resort Chungju to Seoul National University.
The 31 members of the Orientation Preparation Committee worked nonstop for two months to organize the 2024 College of Business School First-Year Orientation. The success of the event would not have been possible without the effort from each of the seven departments - the Safety and Human Rights Team, Finance Team, Public Relations Team, Information Delivery Team, Student Club Team, Recreation Team, and the Closing Ceremony Team - with the Student Council at the helm. In addition to creating a fun atmosphere with various programs and smooth execution, the committee also worked thoroughly to prevent safety accidents, resulting in “no safety accidents” for a second consecutive year.
The presidents of the 38th College of Business Administration Student Council “Deungdae” (So-young Park, Se-joong Jeong, Min-lin Park, College of Business matriculating class of 2022) said, “Once the terms start, it is quite difficult to meet your friends from other classes and your seniors and juniors from other years despite being in the same college. That is why we did our very best to make the orientation, a once-in-a-lifetime event attended by the highest number of students at the College of Business Administration, a meaningful opportunity for all participants to interact freely with one another. The event ended on a successful note, thanks to the help of our fellow students and faculty members. The Student Council added that beginning with the orientation, they will do their utmost best to provide support so that the College of Business Administration students can have even more meaningful experiences on campus.
It is with hope that the 2024 orientation inspires all College of Business Administration students to develop a genuine sense of affection and pride toward the College of Business Administration.
