Dean's Message
Hello. I am Joon Chae, the Dean of the Business School at Seoul National University.
SNU Business School strives to fulfill the vision of becoming a world-class research-oriented business school that also fosters creativity, ambition, and social responsibility.? I would like to propose how Seoul National University's business school, which has been one of the best business schools in Korea, should fulfill this vision in the future. The above vision can be divided into four practical goals.
First, securing academic excellence for research and education.
Enhancing the role of the institution as a creator of knowledge and a preserver of human accomplishment in its capacity as an educational institution is an irreplaceable goal.Second, enriching the school experience.
Recognizing the role of the university not only as a functional entity but also as a community to which its members belong, it is important to create a comprehensive experience in the school. No matter how functionally excellent it is, if the lives of the members within the organization are not satisfying, we cannot achieve our goal as an academic institution. Therefore, enabling members of the school community to have a richer experience is our practical goal.Third, contribution to society.
A school cannot exist without being beneficial to our society. Our goals should be set considering the development of the local community at a smaller scale and the progress of humanity at a larger scale. Aligning the goals of our school with the development of society must be our priority.Fourth, effective management.
To realize these goals, effective management is the final objective. Just as even the most beautiful beads need to be strung together to become a treasure, effective implementation under limited resources is an extremely important goal that rivals ideal visions. So, we must wisely steward our institution’s resources to achieve our great ambitions. These practical goals towards this vision of the institution cannot be achieved by my efforts alone. Therefore, the participation and passion of many people are necessary. Whether it be our professors, students, staff, or everyone around us, the footprints of our generation and our contribution to the school and our community will be engraved in history. I hope that continuous and appreciative actions will lead to the development of the SNU Business School on a smaller scale and Seoul National University and South Korea on a larger scale. Once again, I ask for your interest and support.
