2022 BEST Alliance Deans' Meeting

The BEST Alliance Deans' Meeting was held on April 12, 2022. The BEST Alliance is a three-party consortium between three leading business schools in Korea, Japan, and China - SNU Business School(Korea), Hitotsubashi ICS(Japan), and Peking University's Guanghua School of Management(China). Each school has been hosting regular Deans' Meetings every spring, and this year's meeting was held virtually using Zoom, just like the meetings in 2020 and 2021. 

This year's Deans' Meeting was hosted by Seoul National University, the secretariat for 2022, and was attended by 17 people, including the deans of the three schools, professors, and staff members. Dean Sang-Hoon Kim, Professor Jong-Hag Choi, the Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs, and Professor Woojin Kim, the Vice-Dean for Student Affairs, Professor Hongsuk Yang, the Vice-Dean for the MBA program, Soohye Lee(Office of International Relations), and Jihye Kim(MBA Program) attended from the SNU Business School. 

An introductory speech from Dean Sang-Hoon Kim from Seoul National University was followed by an introduction of new members by Dean Emi Osono, who was newly appointed as dean at Hitotsubashi Universtiy, and Dean Qiao Liu from Peking University, and a briefing on the current situation in each school and the student exchange status between the three schools. Now that the COVID-19 pandemic has continued for three years, all three schools shared their efforts and know-how on hybrid teaching methods and the establishment and management of online lecture platforms and discussed ways to enhance exchanges between the schools through exchange student programs and multiple degree programs. Seoul National University presented the option of relaxing the co-research guidelines to incorporate case studies and projects among the three countries at this meeting, which as positively received by the two schools with plans to review this proposal in the future.

Finally, the deans of the three schools agreed to host the BEST Symposium, scheduled to be held in November 2022, virtually, since the immigration rules vary by country. They concluded the meeting by agreeing to discuss the option of hosting an in-person event in the Gwanak Campus at Seoul National University if the COVID-19 situation improves later this year.
